2022 Nissan Frontier Overview
The Frontier from Nissan has long been a popular alternative to the mainstream midsize pickup, but it has also been a long time since the Frontier got a serious makeover. That is about to change with the 2022 Nissan Frontier that will soon be available at Lokey Nissan. Thew new truck will usher in the third generation and bring with it a modern exterior aesthetic, a redesigned and more upscale cabin, a more powerful and refined powertrain, an extended wheelbase and much more. Note that the new Frontier is still in the preproduction phase and so details are subject to change, but with that in mind, join us we explore all of the updates and new features we do know about in this 2022 Nissan Frontier review.

The Frontier with the extended cab has two doors and bed that measures 6.5 feet. The Frontier with the crew cab has four full-size doors and a bed that measures 5.5 feet. While we do not have precise wheelbase and length specifications yet, we do know that the Frontier has been lengthened by out 5 inches overall. That means that the new Frontier will be measure about 210.5 inches long. This is true for both cab since the longer bed makes up the length with the shorter cab and vice versa.
Interior - 2022 Nissan Frontier
Nissan will continue to offer an extended cab—dubbed the King Cab—and a crew cab, and we will have both body styles available at our location serving Clearwater Tampa Wesley Chapel Florida. However, the new Frontier is longer—more in that in the next section—and that means more cabin roominess too. We do not have specifics yet but do know that it will improve on the current numbers: 39.7 inches of front headroom, 42.4 inches of rear legroom, 25.4 inches of rear legroom in the extended cab and 33.6 inches of rear legroom in the crew cab. There are many changes to the cabin, which is much more modern in design and features upscale materials. Perhaps the most notable is the Zero Gravity seating up front, which are much more comfortable and in particular when driving long periods.
Nissan Frontier Mechanical specs
The new Frontier will be front-wheel drive standard, but those reading this 2022 Nissan Frontier review to learn about four-wheel drive can rest assured it will be available at all trim levels. This is an advanced four-wheel-drive system that has been redesigned and features an electronic two-speed transfer case. Four-wheel-drive models also have hill descent control and an enhanced suspension.
2022 Nissan Frontier Powertrain specs
Nissan’s 3.8-liter V6 was introduced to the Frontier with the 2020 model. This will be carried to the new models when they arrive at our dealership serving Clearwater Tampa Wesley Chapel Florida. This V6 is currently rated for 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. It is not yet clear if those numbers have been improved. Nissan currently pairs this engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission, and that will be the case when the third generation begins. Maximum payload capacity has been improved to 1,610 pounds, and maximum towing capacity remains the same at 6,720 pounds.

An 8.0-inch touchscreen will be standard. A 9.0-inch touchscreen will be optional. Standard features include a rearview monitor, voice recognition, Bluetooth, multiple USB charging ports and Android and Apple device integration. Nissan Safety Shield 360 will now be offered and include features like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure mitigation, intelligent cruise control, forward collision avoidance and more.

This is an exciting time for fans of the Nissan Frontier and midsize pickups in general because the 2022 Nissan Frontier ushers in the all-new third generation. It arrives with a number of substantial changes, including an all-new suspension, all-new bodywork, a redesigned interior and many more standard and optional technologies and amenities than were available with the previous generation. Your options include two extended cabs: a four-door crew cab and two-door cab Nissan calls its King Cab. That cab has a 6-foot bed, and the crew cab gives you the option of either a 5-foot or 6-foot bed. There are also four distinct trim levels to choose from. These include the S, SV, Pro-X and Pro-4X.
S Trim
The S is the first of the 2022 Nissan Frontier trim levels, and it gives you the option of both drivetrains and all three cab-bed combinations. All models have the same powertrain, which pairs a nine-speed automatic transmission with a V6 engine that makes 310 hp and 281 lb.-ft. of torque. The base exterior package includes 16-inch steel wheels, automatic headlamps, LED taillamps and a locking dampen-assisted tailgate. The cabin features air conditioning, in-cabin filtration, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats and a 60/40-split flip-up rear bench. The infotainment system features an 8-inch center touchscreen, a 7-inch driver information display and a six-speaker audio system. Automatic headlamps and forward collision detection with automatic braking are standard. You also have the option of a Technology Package. It adds intelligent cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear sonar system, rear automatic braking and high beam assist.
SV Trim
If you're looking to upgrade from the base-level S trim, you can move up to the SV trim. This trim comes with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive options. Additionally, you'll get some great technology features, including a 7-inch advanced drive-assist display. The vehicle also comes with the NissanConnect 8-inch touchscreen to make working with your apps and media easier. You can enjoy a smooth ride thanks to the 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. SR Trim
The SV is the up-level trim available to consumers in Clearwater. It upgrades the wheels to 17-inch alloy and adds a number of visual enhancements, such as a more elaborate grille and chrome accents. It also adds power outside mirrors. The cabin is upgraded with chrome accents, premium cloth and a six-way power driver seat. A vehicle security system is also standard. The trim level also gives you access to a number of optional groups, such as the Convenience Package and Premium Package. These add much of the equipment that becomes standard with the Pro-4X, which is described in the next section.
Pro-X Trim
The Pro-X is the newest of the 2022 Nissan Frontier trim levels. It provides an option to drivers who like the look and features of the Pro-4X but do not necessarily need all of the mechanical enhancements. As mentioned in the previous section, the SV lets you add the features without the appearance package. Mechanically, this trim level does add Bilstein off-road shock absorbers. The exterior is upgraded with dark-finished wheels, LED signature headlamps, LED daytime running lamps and LED fog lamps. Cabin upgrades include special embroidered seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, an overhead console and LED lighting. The infotainment is upgraded to a 9-inch touchscreen with navigation and Wi-Fi hotspot. The Technology Package remains optional, but it is expanded with traffic sign recognition for the intelligent cruise control system.
Pro-4X
The Pro-4X is the ultimate of the Frontier trim levels. This model is only available with four-wheel drive and adds a two-speed transfer case and electronic locking rear differential. It also adds an aluminum front skid plate and underbody skid plates. The cabin is upgraded with Pro-4X-specific seating and floor mats. This trim level is also notable in that it offers the widest range of factory- and dealer-installed accessories.
